I regret to inform you that the FSSP England summer camps scheduled for this coming August in the Peak District have had to be cancelled. This is due to the restrictions imposed by the government, which made it unrealistic for Savio House to host us this time. Here’s hoping and praying that the 2021 camps will be even better to compensate!

A monk of my acquaintance once drily remarked, as he looked across at the banks of gloomy faces in the choir stalls opposite, that he sometimes doubted the Resurrection had really happened. The point is well made. It can be easier in a way, for us Catholics, to identify with Lent and Passiontide than with Easter. On Thursday 27 August, St Mary’s had our first ever summer sports day. Children competed in glorious weather in nearby Victoria Park, with events ranging from long-distance running to egg-and-spoon and three-legged races, and a three-way tug of war. There was even a Fathers’ race, in which Fr Verrier and Fr Phipps didn’t quite distinguish themselves… A few photos from the day can be seen on the Flickr page (thank you Joachim Kahn). The 2018 Summer Camp for boys, under the patronage of St Peter, got underway on Monday. We are at a new location this year, in Bollington on the edge of the Peak District. The theme for the camp is the True Devotion to Mary of St Louis Marie Grignon de Montfort. You can see photos of the camp at the Flickr page. Please pray for the success of this camp and for all the participants.
