PRIORY CAMPAIGN:

Official support from our Archbishop Malcolm McMahon OP of Liverpool: “In July 2015, I invited the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter to come to the archdiocese of Liverpool and to have responsibility for St Mary’s Church, Warrington. It has now become a centre for the celebration of the extraordinary form of Mass and the sacraments. I am very pleased that such a beautiful church remained open for divine worship and provides a spiritual home for many. As the local Ordinary, I have ordained four priests at St Mary’s Church over the past three years, and I have twice conferred the sacrament of Confirmation. I eagerly support the Priory Campaign which will secure for St Mary’s Shrine the space needed for their increasing pastoral activities.”

Dear Friends, we have three months to raise £1.5m and buy back the former Priory and St Mary’s School next door (total Net Internal Area of 1,383.19 Sq m or 14,891 Sq ft.) This is a unique opportunity to endow St Mary’s with the space we urgently need: parish hall, music room, clergy offices, and classrooms. In addition, a pro-life office, a publishing company, a vestments-sewing workshop and accommodation for retreatants could be added.

We have already £300.000 pledged. Just as we expect this project to benefit souls even at a distance from Warrington, we seek support from far and wide, not only among our local congregation. In our times of growing adversity, the Priory Campaign aims at building a strongly Catholic community.  Please speak to your friends about this historic opportunity, and pray for generous benefactors.

At this stage, we request pledges rather than actual donations.

Thank you for your prayers for our General Chapter which ended last 18th July. Pray for the new Superior General and his Council. Changes in clergy assignments may still occur next month, as meeting the needs of everyone around our 125 houses spread in 129 dioceses on 4 continents is a complex affair.

Music for this Sunday:

Byrd’s Mass in Four Parts; Lotti Laudate Dominum; Victoria O Jesu Memoriam

Today is the last Sunday when our Choir sings before their summer recess. On behalf of our congregation (including our fellow worshippers online), may I thank them all wholeheartedly for yet another year of musical excellence for the greater glory of God.

With our music director on sick leave (please pray for his prompt recovery), our gratitude goes in particular to Kathy Jones and Fr Ian Verrier FSSP, who coordinated superbly the Ordination ceremony and the subsequent Sundays.

We wish all our singers a well-earned rest and look forward to hearing them again in September. Meanwhile, anyone interested in singing at St Mary’s is welcome to contact us.

Fr Rector

Legion of Mary mission week: time was lacking, it was felt, to be ready by September. We are looking at further dates later next year and will keep everyone informed.

Watch Holy Mass at St Marys daily on www.livemass.org. The Mass of the day can be watched for 24hrs and that of the Sunday for the entire week.

☞ Did you know? St Mary’s Shrine costs £1,444 a week to run and maintain. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Reminder: To receive Holy Communion: to be a Catholic, in state of grace, one-hour fasting.

In the EF liturgy, Holy Communion is received kneeling (unless unable to) and always on the tongue. Thank you in advance.

9 Doctrinal Talks

 A) Wed. 25 July, 7:00pm: Talk on Modesty in Dress by Fr de Malleray, FSSP.

What we wear tells about who we are. However, common sense suggests that our dress should reflect the time and place of the occasion. But to what extent? This is a sensitive but important topic. For us Catholics, it goes deeper than a mere dress code as is in force for instance at the Royal Ascot (see their very detailed description of which items are permitted and which would bar access…). According to Christian tradition, wearing the appropriate clothes goes all the way back to God clothing our first parents after the fall; and it anticipates on the wedding garments described in the Apocalypse. Q & A’s will follow.

Arrive at 6:00pm that evening if you wish to attend an extra Low Mass.

 B) Wed 1st Aug, 7:00pm Talk on What is Holy Mass? – by Fr Seth Phipps, FSSP. Arrive at 6:00pm that evening if you wish to attend an extra Low Mass.

 C) Sat 4 August 5-6pm: Talk on The Two Ends of Marriage by Fr Konrad Loewenstein.

 D) Mon 6-Sat 11 Aug, 7:00pm: Catechetical Fundamentals by Fr Loewenstein: 1. Introduction, The Creed, God; 2. The Creation; 3. The Economy of Salvation: The Church; 4. The Seven Sacraments; 5. The Moral Life; 6. The Four Last Things and the 10 Commandments.
