Public liturgy to resume on Wednesday 2nd December

Liverpool City Region (includes Wirral),  Warrington and Cheshire  will be in Covid Tier 2 from Wednesday 2nd December.

Churches will be able to reopen. The Government website says:

open but you must not socialise with people from outside of your household or
support bubble while you are indoors there, unless a legal exemption applies’

The guidance is the same as it was before the Nov 5th lockdown 2. The social distancing rules and face-covering and sanitising guidance remains the same. Further […]

  • greater availability of the Extraordinary Form within the Archdiocese;
  • restricting the use of Extraordinary [lay] Ministers of Holy Communion;
  • Services […]

    Free the Holy Souls: another fortnight!

    Reminder: the restrictions imposed by the Government prevent many faithful from meeting the usual conditions to gain the plenary indulgences on behalf of the Holy Souls in Purgatory during this month of November. Thankfully the Holy See has granted more flexible conditions, allowing nearly every one to help one or several holy souls enter heaven this month.

    In particular, entering a church or a cemetery is now dispensed with. One can gain the indulgence from home if unable to travel to […]

    New Opening Times

    “At this difficult moment, we ask that, as a Catholic community, we make full use of our churches as places of individual prayer and sources of solace and help.” Statement by Cardinal Vincent Nichols and Archbishop Malcom McMahon OP about this new lockdown.

    Dear worshippers at St Mary’s Shrine (WA1 2NS, Buttermarket Street, Warrington), following the decision by the Government to ban public worship between 5th Nov and 2nd Dec 2020, thus turning down the petition made by Cardinal Nichols […]

    Suspension of Public Worship

    As you will be aware, the Government’s new lockdown legislation calls for the cessation of public worship. Please sign this petition and write to your local MP to challenge this blatant and unnecessary violation of liberty. You will be pleased to note that the Bishops Conference has challenged the Government on this point, as have several bishops including Bishop Egan. Please pray that these restrictions are lifted quickly.

    During the lockdown, we will strive to keep the founts […]
